The Main Botanical Garden named after N.V. Tsitsin of the Russian Academy of Sciences is a botanical garden in Moscow, the largest botanical garden in Europe. Founded on April 14, 1945, Nikolai Vasilyevich Tsitsin became the first director.
It has the richest collections of plants representing the diverse flora of almost all continents and climatic zones of the globe. Living collections include 8220 species and 8110 forms and varieties of plants – a total of 16 330 taxa. On the basis of collections using modern techniques of landscape architecture, botanical expositions of plants have been created: the natural flora of Russia and the former USSR, an arboretum, an exposition of tropical and subtropical plants, floral and decorative and cultivated plants.
In the summer of 2014, the territory of VDNKh was merged with the Botanical Garden and Ostankino Park, the dividing fence between VDNKh and the Botanical Garden was soon dismantled, and ticket offices at the entrance to the garden were closed; to move from the Ostankino park to the territory of the botanical garden, a gate was opened on the bridge over the pond dividing the garden. One of the ticket offices, located near the exit to Malaya Botanicheskaya Street, was reoriented to sell tickets for excursions to the Fondovaya Orangery.
